Community Guidelines

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

Version 2026-10-11-pending-counsel, pending counsel review

The community is a place for members to share what they are learning about their own careers. Taking part is optional. These Guidelines apply when the community is available to you and you choose to post, reply or report. They are part of our Terms of Service (section 10). We ask you to accept them before your first post.

1. What the community is for

  • Sharing your own experience: a win, a question, something that worked, something that didn't.
  • Encouraging other members.
  • Practice and preparation. Nothing here is advice from a professional, and no outcome is promised.

The community is for individuals. It is never shown to employers, and nobody may use it on behalf of an employer, a recruiter or an agency.

2. Protect yourself and other people

Write as if a colleague could read it.

  1. Do not name your employer in a way that identifies a person. Do not name a company, team, product or place of work, or describe one closely enough to recognize it, if that would let a reader work out who you or anyone else is. Say "a mid-size software company," not the company's name.
  2. No confidential employer information. No trade secrets, internal numbers, customer or client details, unreleased plans, source code, or anything covered by a confidentiality agreement.
  3. Do not name or identify other people. Use a role ("my manager," "a peer"), never a name, and leave out details that point to one person. Do not share anyone's health, family, immigration, pay, performance or disciplinary details.
  4. Keep your own details private. No contact details, résumé extracts, exact pay figures, or links to your profiles.

3. How to treat each other

  1. Be respectful. No harassment, threats, insults, slurs, hate, or sexual content.
  2. Be honest. Do not invent results, credentials or stories.
  3. No recruiting or selling. No job offers, referrals for pay, advertising, promotion of a service, or links meant to send people elsewhere.
  4. No spam and no repeated posts of the same thing.

4. Not advice

  1. No legal, medical or financial advice between members. You can say what you did and how it went. Do not tell another member what their legal rights are, what a contract means, whether they have a claim, what to do about a health problem, or what to do with their money.
  2. Do not rely on a post as advice. For questions about your rights at work, ask an official source such as your state labor department or the US Department of Labor, or an employment lawyer. For health or money questions, ask a qualified professional.

5. Your handle

You choose a handle. It is what other members see.

  • Do not use your real full name, and do not use anyone else's name.
  • Do not use a company name, a brand, or a job title that claims to speak for a company.
  • Do not use "CareerCaseOS," "support," "admin," "moderator," "official," "staff" or anything that suggests you work for us. Some handles are reserved and will be refused.
  • Do not pretend to be a recruiter, an employer representative or any other person.

Posts from CareerCaseOS itself carry a mark that only our own account can have.

6. What happens to a post

A post or reply is always in one of these states:

  • Visible: members can read it.
  • Waiting for review: a person will look at it before it appears, or before it appears again.
  • Hidden after reports: members reported it, and it is out of view until a person has looked at it.
  • Removed by a moderator: a person decided it breaks these Guidelines.

Posts may be checked automatically and by a person, before or after they appear. We review by hand, so there can be a wait. We keep a record of every moderation action: what was done, why and when.

Reporting. Any member can report a post, and say why (for example: identifies a person or an employer, confidential information, harassment, advice, selling, pretending to be someone). We aim to review a report within one business day. The member you report is not told who reported them.

If your post is hidden or removed, we tell you, with the reason. You can ask once for another look. A person reviews it again, and we aim to answer within one business day. You can also edit and post again without the part that broke the Guidelines.

Deleting your own post. You can delete your post at any time. It stops being shown. If it was reported or removed, we keep the moderation record.

7. Limits

  • We may limit how many posts are accepted in a day. If the limit is reached, your post waits, and we tell you so.
  • We may pause posting for everyone while reading stays open, for example while we deal with a problem.
  • If you break these Guidelines, we may remove posts, limit your posting, or suspend your community access. Serious or repeated breaches can also lead to action under the Terms of Service.
  • Losing community access does not end your account or your paid plan by itself, and it never affects your right to export or delete your data.

8. What we do with what you post

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to show it to other members and to check and moderate it, only to run the community. That permission is not exclusive, and it ends for a post when you delete it. We do not use your posts in advertising. We do not use them to train AI models. We do not sell them. We never give them to an employer. The full terms are in section 10 of the Terms of Service, and the Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

9. If you need help now

The community is not a crisis service, and moderators are not counselors. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number. Outside the US, contact your local emergency services or a local crisis line.
